What is Base?

Base is an Ethereum layer 2 scaling solution on a mission to onboard the next billion crypto users. Whilst the market for layer 2s is overwhelming, if not saturated, Base has a distinct USP in the fact that it has been developed by crypto powerhouse, Coinbase.

Farcaster

Farcaster is a decentralised social network that has received rave reviews from web3 users in recent months. Farcaster offers a similar experience to many web2 social networks; in fact, you could consider it a Twitter (X) clone with its almost identical UI.

Aside from being decentralised, where Farcaster differs from its more traditional counterparts is through its ‘frames’ feature. A ‘frame’ allows Farcaster users to embed mini-apps inside their posts (or casts as they’re known on Farcaster).

A frame can take the form of things like games, polls and newsletters, which all can be used without leaving the app – a feature that could be a game-changer not just in the crypto world, but for traditional brands too.

Based Nouns

Based Nouns is a community-driven NFT project built with Base in mind, inspired by the hugely successful NounsDAO project.

Although the NFT space is becoming tougher to crack as more projects enter, Based Nouns are seen as offering something different to many of the other projects available. 

For a lot of NFT projects, community comes second to the overall mission. But with Based Nouns, the mission is to use NFTs to enhance the lives of holders and community members. Perhaps most interesting though is the project’s commitment to growing the overall Base network.

The Based Nouns website describes their overarching goal as onboarding a billion people onto the Coinbase-backed blockchain. 

SeamlessFi

Seamless is the first decentralised lending and borrowing protocol built on the Base network. As the name suggests, Seamless aims to bring a better user experience to the DeFi space, aligning with Base’s own goals by helping to onboard the next generation of DeFi users.

Previous protocols often required users to over-collateralize, a feature that was better suited to crypto whales as opposed to new web3 users with fewer funds available. Through Seamless, users can utilise integrated liquidity markets (ILMs) to benefit from under-collateralised borrowing.   

Based Brett

Memecoins are a divisive subject in the crypto and NFT space. Whilst there are several examples of memecoins with bad intentions, nobody can deny the eyeballs they bring to the space. Dogecoin, Shiba and Pepe are just a handful that have amassed staggering market caps despite being considered extremely high-risk.

The memecoin receiving a lot of attention this bull run lives on the Base network, Based Brett. Originally a character from the Boy’s Club webcomic, Brett has been brought to Base in memecoin form and has gone on to become the 62nd largest cryptocurrency in the world.

Like many of the most successful Base projects, the future of Brett lies solely in the hands of the community.
